For Augie’s first camping trip we decided to try out glamping. We found an amazing spot in South Haven, Michigan called The Fields of Michigan. The “tents” are luxuriously supplied with king beds, cozy reading chairs – and yes – even a bathroom! So this wasn’t exactly camping, but it was a wonderful time to get Augie outdoors and unplug for a couple of days.

I can’t get over just how awesome of a place The Fields of Michigan is. Situated on a blueberry farm three miles from Lake Michigan, the grounds were home to towering pine trees, a calming pond, beautifully furnished tents, and a super cute “canteen” where they served breakfast. The amenities were first class, complete with a campfire lighting service and a s’mores kit delivered each night.

Augie loved exploring the grounds. There were corn hole games scattered around that he enjoyed “playing” and a beautiful creek that elicited a “woooooow” from him.

We spent the mornings playing at the beach in South Haven. North Beach is a great public beach that allows dogs. Remi was so happy to be included on this trip and she was in heaven lounging on the beach. Augie loved playing the sand and running into the waves. We definitely have a couple of beach bums on our hands.

We found a couple of great spots for lunch in South Haven – Bunde’s Bakery and Cafe was my favorite. It was a cute little spot a block up from the beach where we ordered breakfast sandwiches and coffees and sat outside on the sidewalk with Remi.

In the afternoons we took Augie to Kid’s Corner Park. It’s a fantastic park near the water with plenty of shade and an insanely cool wooden playground. Afterwards we would walk around downtown South Haven and wander down to the pier and lighthouse. Just up from the pier is a splash pad for kids that was a big hit with Augie.

It was nice to return to a comfy bed and a cozy campfire after a long day of fun. I’d highly recommend South Haven and The Fields of Michigan for a fun and unique family getaway. We can’t wait to go back!
